IPL 2023: Sehwag slams Sam Curran’s lack of experience as Punjab Kings lose to RCB

In the world of cricket, the Indian Premier League (IPL) is a high-octane tournament that brings together some of the best cricketing talent from across the globe. Every year, the league produces new heroes and new stories, and the 2023 edition of the IPL is no exception.

In a recent match between Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore, the absence of Shikhar Dhawan, the Kings’ regular captain, presented an opportunity for youngster Sam Curran to lead the side. The 23-year-old all-rounder had already shown glimpses of his leadership skills earlier in the season, when he had led the Kings to victory against Lucknow Super Giants. However, against RCB, things did not go according to plan for Curran, as he struggled with certain decisions that ultimately cost his team the match. Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag, who was commentating on the game, pointed out some of the areas where Curran had faltered.

Sehwag noted that he had expected Curran to perform well with the bat, but unfortunately, that did not happen. He also felt that Curran had not shown enough maturity while batting and had lost his wicket in a poor fashion. Sehwag further criticized Curran for being lazy while running between the wickets, and questioned whether Punjab Kings had got their money’s worth from the 18 crore they had spent on buying the young cricketer.

“He’s an international player. But you can’t buy experience with 18 crore. It only comes when you play, when your hair turns white as you play under the hot sun. We think just because he was bought for 18 crore, he will win you matches. But he doesn’t have that experience yet,” Sehwag stated.

Sehwag also felt that Curran should have tried to take the game deep and should have stayed at the crease to take the team to the final overs. “But again, the lack of experience cost him,” Sehwag said while talking to Cricbuzz.

On the other hand, RCB’s Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis put up a solid performance, setting the tone for the match and scoring crucial runs. With the ball, Mohammed Siraj was outstanding, picking up four wickets, while Wanindu Hasaranga picked up two. As a result, RCB were able to restrict PBKS to 150 runs and win the game by 24 runs.

Meanwhile, Liam Livingstone, who had finally made it to the PBKS playing XI, could not make much of an impact against RCB. The England international scored just two runs off four deliveries and will be looking to improve his performance in the upcoming matches.

Overall, the match between PBKS and RCB highlighted the importance of experience and maturity in cricket, and showed that even the most talented young players can falter under pressure. As the IPL season progresses, it will be interesting to see how the young guns of Indian cricket perform, and whether they can live up to the expectations of their fans and their teams.
