La Liga President Javier Tebas points to Real Madrid as Kylian Mbappe’s potential destination

La Liga President Javier Tebas has supported Real Madrid’s advances to sign superstar Frenchman Kylian Mbappe, who was reportedly close to joining the Spanish giants at the end of the last season. Tebas has disclosed that the Los Blancos are currently the only club in the Spanish top flight who are financially capable of making the big money move to bring Mbappe in, and that he personally would like to see Mbappe in Spain.

Tebas felt that the arrival of someone of Mbappe’s quality and popularity could give the La Liga a lot of publicity and an increase in viewership and even sponsorship. With the La Liga President reportedly looking to restore the former glory of the league, which was at its peak during the Messi-Ronaldo era, Mbappe’s arrival could come a long way. “In La Liga, the only club that can buy Mbappe is Real Madrid. I’d like to see him in the league.” Tebas said.

Real Madrid have been long-time admirers of Mbappe, and the opposite also happens to be true, as the World Cup winner is admittedly a lifelong “Madridista”. The 14-time Champions League winners were set to take advantage of the Frenchman’s contract with PSG, which was to expire in June 2022, as they were close to agreeing to a deal to sign him on a free transfer.

However, a huge transfer saga would erupt, with high-level political figures allegedly involved, as Mbappe surprisingly signed a three-year extension with the Parisians, on reported wages of €93 million per year. Following the announcement of his new deal, when asked as to why he chose to stay at the French champions, Mbappe said, “It is difficult to say no when the President of France calls you himself,”.

However, his time with PSG since the extension has been tenuous at best, as he reportedly had a falling out with former Sporting Director Leonardo barely weeks into his extended tenure, and his relationship with his successor Luis Campos is not great either, and is looking to move to the Spanish capital.

The deal could set the defending La Liga champions back a fair penny, but will be a spectacular thing for Spanish football, as per Javier Tebas, who appears to be delighted at the prospect. Follow NextBet Sports to get all the latest updates on Real Madrid.
