Jasprit Bumrah could end up missing IPL 2023 as well as the WTC Final

Jasprit Bumrah seems to have suffered another major blow in his recovery back to full fitness. In fact, it is now believed that his initial injury was more severe than what was expected and as a result, he could have to spend a longer period on the sidelines recuperating.

The leader of the Indian pace bowling attack is a major doubt for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023. Although the initial plan surrounding Bumrah was to target IPL 2023 as a possible return date for the star pacer, he will not be fit in time to participate in the competition which is set to begin towards the end of March and end in May. Moreover, there is also a small chance that Bumrah will not be fit enough to be included in the Indian squad should they manage to qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC) final, set to be held in the United Kingdom in June.

The 29-year-old has been out of international action for over five months now and he got ruled out of the ICC T20 World Cup campaign for India in Australia as well. Sources closely associated with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as well as Mumbai Indians now seem to suggest that he has not been feeling comfortable regarding his injury and is staring at a potentially longer hiatus, as reported by Cricbuzz.

The report further stated that the revised target for them is to bring him back to full fitness and get him ready in time for India’s Cricket World Cup campaign on home soil or if it is possible, the Asia Cup, wherever it is held this year. The last time Bumrah took part in an international match was against Australia in September 2022. Cricbuzz had also recently reported that authorities at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru had not cleared him to participate during that three-match series and that Bumrah was rushed to action too soon, too early in order to get him into shape for the then-upcoming T20 World Cup.

It only ended up making things even worse and the pacer has had to spend close to half a year away from the pitch. The latest information suggests that the NCA won’t make the same mistake and they are not in a hurry to rush him into action. Follow Dafabet Sports for more updates on this story.
