Manchester United in Advanced Talks to Sign Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen

Manchester United are reportedly in advanced talks to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s right-back Jeremie Frimpong, according to recent reports. The 22-year-old player has been on the Red Devil’s radar for some time as they aim to improve their squad ahead of next season. While Frimpong is also a target for Real Madrid, the Premier League seems to be his preferred destination.

Man Utd’s Erik ten Hag has overseen a season of progress at Old Trafford, guiding the team to their first major trophy since 2017 after lifting the League Cup in February. However, he is already looking at bolstering his squad, with right-back being one of the key areas he wants to improve. While Aaron Wan Bissaka has worked his way back into the starting XI, he is still being heavily linked with a move away from the club. As a result, Man Utd has been linked with several right-backs in recent times, but it seems that they have settled upon Frimpong as their primary target. Reports indicate that Man Utd is likely to strike a deal with Leverkusen for Frimpong’s signature this summer, although Real Madrid has also registered interest in the defender. However, Frimpong has already decided that he would prefer to join Man Utd.

Frimpong has made 30 league appearances for Leverkusen this season, scoring eight goals and making six assists, making him one of the most effective attacking full-backs in Europe. Given that he is still a youngster, he is expected to get even better as he gains more experience.

In comparison, Wan Bissaka has failed to make a single goal contribution in the Premier League this season, so it’s evident why Ten Hag is keen to bring in Frimpong. Although Ten Hag certainly has one eye on the future, his focus will be on ensuring that Man Utd qualifies for the Champions League.
