Rishabh Pant might take two years to return to Indian team, says Sourav Ganguly

Former BCCI President Sourav Ganguly opened up about Rishabh Pant’s recent accident and told that the player could take up to two years to recover fully. Ganguly, having given up his role as BCCI President recently to Roger Binny, will be joining Delhi Capitals as a mentor. He mentioned that the wicket-keeper batter is recuperating from the injuries after that horrendous car crash that took place in December.

The Delhi Capitals are yet to confirm a captain in the upcoming IPL after Pant ruled himself out for the upcoming IPL 2023, where he was supposed to lead the side. It seems like Sheldon Jackson is the player who will be opted as a replacement player while Australian opener David Warner might be the captain of the franchise. I spoke to him a couple of times. Obviously he is going through a tough period, through injuries and surgeries and I wish him well. In a year’s time or may be in a couple of years’ time, he will be back playing for India,” Ganguly told news agency PTI.

David Warner too recently picked up an elbow injury during the second Test against India in Delhi. He went back to Australia to recuperate and will not be taking part in the Indore and Ahmedabad Tests that are coming up soon. So it will be interesting to see what decisions the franchise makes with the tournament less than a month away from commencement.

Delhi Capitals also have an injury concern with in-form domestic batter Sarfaraz Khan, who reportedly fractured his finger. However, the Mumbai player has only injured his finger, not broken it, according to Ganguly and he will be ready before the IPL 2023 begins. The Capitals, who continue to hunt their maiden trophy, missed out on a playoff spot last time, will definitely miss the services of Rishabh Pant.

However, his absence will be felt more in the Indian side when they travel to London for the World Test Championship final after the big tournament finishes. The Indian batting lineup has been heavily dependent on Pant for bulk of the runs in the longest format, especially outside of their home. Unfortunately, all they can do is wait for the player to regain full fitness. Follow Gclub Sports to get more updates on Rishabh Pant.
