IPL 2023: Moeen Ali’s superb spell powers CSK to their first win of the season

Chennai Super Kings secured their first victory of the IPL 2023 season by defeating Lucknow Super Giants by 12 runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on April 3. After being put into bat, the Super Kings set a daunting target of 217/7 on the board.

Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway opened the innings with a scorching partnership of 110 runs off just 9.1 overs, setting the tempo for the team.

Gaikwad, who carried his excellent form from the previous match, scored a blazing 57 runs off just 31 balls, laced with 3 fours and 4 sixes, with the highlight being a magnificent straight six off K Gowtham’s bowling. Follow your favourite IPL team with the best betting odds from Gclub.

Meanwhile, Conway added a quickfire 47 off 29 deliveries, and Ambati Rayudu contributed a brisk 27* off 14 balls. Skipper MS Dhoni, with his two consecutive sixes in the last over, including a massive hit over deep mid-wicket, finished the innings in style.

During his knock, Dhoni also crossed the 5000-run mark in IPL cricket. Chasing a monumental target of 218, Lucknow started brightly, with Kyle Mayers hammering a 22-ball 53 at the top of the order.

However, Moeen Ali’s dismissal of Mayers led to a steady loss of wickets, and Lucknow slumped from 79/0 to 105/4. Despite a late surge by Nicholas Pooran, who scored 32, Lucknow fell short of the target, finishing with 205/7.

Moeen Ali was the star performer for the Super Kings, claiming excellent figures of 4-0-26-4. The Super Kings will face off against the Mumbai Indians on April 8 in Mumbai in their next match. Get all updates from IPL 2023 only on Gclub Sports.
