Kumar Sangakkara lashes out at Rajasthan Royals batters for embarrassing collapse against RCB

Rajasthan Royals’ hopes of progressing in the IPL 2023 campaign seem to be in jeopardy following a demoralizing defeat at the hands of Royal Challengers Bangalore in their own backyard. In a match where they were chasing a par total of 171 runs, the home team lost both their openers without scoring a run. Things didn’t get any better as half their side was back in the pavilion with a negligible score on the board.

Kumar Sangakkara, the head coach of RR, expressed his disappointment at the batting display put up by his players. He felt that the batters were guilty of throwing away their wickets rather than the bowlers dismissing them. According to him, the team got carried away in the powerplay and tried to score too many runs, resulting in the loss of crucial wickets. “It was a case of trying to build partnerships but unfortunately, we were five down coming out of the powerplay which was probably the end of the game. They didn’t really get us out but we got ourselves out, it was pretty obvious to see. So, it was not about one individual it’s about the whole batting unit, and we weren’t good enough today,” Sangakkara said at the post-match press conference.

Faf du Plessis, the skipper of RCB and the holder of the Orange Cap in IPL 2023, played a crucial role in setting a competitive total along with Glenn Maxwell’s attacking knock. At the halfway stage, the game was in the balance, with the home team having the firepower to chase down the target. However, it was a poor batting performance, coupled with some bizarre shot selections, that has left RR’s playoff hopes hanging by a thread.

“It was a poor batting performance. We bowled well to keep them under 170, which on this pitch was going to be a good chase. We’ll have to wait, have one game left. Unfortunately, now other results will have to go our way. We got to play for some pride and make sure we win it,” the coach added.

With only one game left in the league stage, RR’s fate is not entirely in their hands. They will need other results to go their way if they are to have any chance of qualifying for the playoffs. For now, they must regroup and focus on winning their final game to salvage some pride from what has been a disappointing campaign. Get all the latest updates from IPL 2023 only on Dafabet Sports
