Manchester United to make £44 million summer transfer move for Monaco defensive star Disasi

Manchester United have reportedly shortlisted emerging AS Monaco centre-half Axel Disasi in order to add depth to their defensive unit, which could see a few departures in the upcoming summer transfer window. The Monaco defender, should he complete the move to Old Trafford, will serve as a backup option to United’s World Cup-winning centre-back pairing, Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane.

United have already set the tone for a major rebuild, which has been long overdue, after multiple projects failed to take off after a seemingly positive start, following the retirement of legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson. However, under Erik Ten Hag, the Red Devils have started achieving results that are expected of a club of their stature, having already won the Carabao Cup, and pushing for both the FA Cup as well as the UEFA Europa League. The 20-time Premier League champions are also doing well in the top flight, as they currently possess a firm grip on the third position in the league. Ten Hag is reportedly looking to add more players to the squad who fit into his coaching philosophy, after acquiring a host of players in the bygone transfer windows. With Inter Milan knocking on the door in a bid to sign Swedish defender Victor Lindelof, the Red Devils are set to go after Disasi, if reports are to be believed. The 6’3” 25-year old has been brilliant in the Ligue 1 this season, widely considered one of the best defenders in the league.

He can play as a centre-half as well as on the right side of a back four, adding versatility to his game. He is known to be excellent in the air as well, winning 71% of his aerial duels, placing him in the highest percentile in that category.

Manchester United’s representatives have reportedly had a meeting with Monaco executives to discuss a potential deal, but there is no concrete information on the matter for the moment. Monaco have supposedly set a price tag of £44 million for the Frenchman, whose contract expires at the end of the 2024/25 season. Follow all updates on Manchester United only on Gclub sports.
