Messi could make staggering €200 million a year return to Barcelona

Legendary Argentine forward Lionel Messi has been offered a stunning proposal to return to Barcelona in the summer, when his contract expires at Paris Saint-Germain. As per multiple reports from Catalonia, the superstar has been offered wages of €200 million a year for two years, should he make a fairytale return to the Nou Camp.

A return to Barcelona for Messi can not be ruled out with his deal at PSG expiring this summer, and multiple clubs interested in securing his signature, including the Parisians themselves, who have offered to activate the one-year extension.

After leaving his boyhood club in trying circumstances back in 2021, the maestro has not had the best of times, especially during his first season. Messi was average by his towering standards, managing 11 goals and 15 assists across all competitions. He has fared significantly better this season, having already accumulated 18 goals and 17 assists with a substantial part of the season to be played. However, the main intention behind PSG signing the stalwart has not been fulfilled, as the club continues to struggle in the Champions League despite the presence of several big names in the side. They were knocked out by Real Madrid in the Round of 16 in 2022, followed by suffering a defeat to Bayern Munich at the same stage in this edition of the tournament.

Barcelona President Joan Laporta is believed to be extremely interested in bringing the World Cup winner back to the side, and has reportedly prepared an intriguing plan to help make his dream come true, although the Catalans are currently in financial trouble. Laporta has proposed that Messi signs for Barca on a minimum wage contract for two years, and will receive all the revenue that he generates from merchandise sales, which is estimated to be in the range of €200 million. Barcelona did something similar when they signed club legend Dani Alves back in 2022, and they hope to pull it off again with their greatest player ever.
