RCB looking to rope in Michael Bracewell after injury rules out Will Jacks

Three-time IPL finalists Royal Challengers Bangalore have been dealt an injury blow just a couple of weeks before the start of the sixteenth edition of the marquee T20 tournament. England all-rounder Will Jacks has been ruled out for the entirety of the IPL, leaving the Royal Challengers scrambling for a replacement.

Jacks has reportedly suffered a muscle strain and will not be able to take any part in the upcoming edition of the IPL, which would have been his first appearance in the premier T20 league. The Englishman suffered the injury during England’s second ODI game against Bangladesh, following which scans revealed the extent of the injury. The English all-rounder was acquired by the Royal Challengers for Rs.3.2 Crore in the IPL mini-auction in December 2022. The all-rounder would have served as an ideal back-up for Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, who has only just returned after suffering a broken leg in a freak accident at a friend’s residence.

Jacks could have played some part in the tournament, if the team management wanted to manage the 34-year-old’s workload ahead of the all-important World Cup in India. Meanwhile, his own World Cup dreams have now been reduced significantly, as he will not have the chance to show off his skills in Indian conditions. The Royal Challengers Bangalore have reportedly made contact with New Zealand all-rounder Michael Bracewell over a potential replacement signing, and are expected to complete the deal shortly. The Kiwi man impressed many during India’s ODI series against New Zealand, where he performed brilliantly, scoring a magnificent 140 in Hyderabad.

Bracewell did throw his hat in the ring during the IPL auctions, registering himself at a base price of Rs.1 Crore, but did not attract any interest from the franchises, going unsold. However, his big-hitting ability as well as his acumen with the ball could be attractive to the RCB as a backup to Maxwell. The Challengers are also believed to be looking into a deal to bring in Wayne Parnell if an agreement cannot be reached with Bracewell. Get attractive cricket betting odds only on 1xBet.
