The Delhi Capitals kicked off their Women’s Premier League campaign with a dominant victory over the Royal Challengers Bangalore, coasting to victory by 60 runs. The Capitals were spurred on by excellent innings at the top of the order by stalwart skipper Meg Lanning and young sensation Richa Ghosh, who took the RCB attack to the cleaners. While the RCB response did look impressive at times, the mountain of 224 was psychologically too high for them to surmount, as they kept losing wickets to fall well short of the target.

RCB skipper Smithi Mandhana won the toss and decided to bat first on a batting haven at the Brabourne Stadium, a hugely erroneous decision which ended up costing them the game. Lanning and Ghosh tore apart the attack, as Delhi registered the second highest score in women’s T20 cricket. Bet on the Women’s Premier League only on Dafabet.

Mandhana looked in great touch for the Royal Challengers as did Aussie veteran Ellyse Perry, sparking hopes of a miraculous chase. However, that was not to be as Tara Norris picked up five wickets. Megan Schutt and Heather Knight carried a fledgling RCB innings to 160 to minimize the damage to their net run rate, as the Capitals won by 60 runs.

Meanwhile, the UP Warriors pulled a rabbit out of the hat with a thrilling win against the Gujarat Giants, on the back of a splendid innings by Grace Harris. Harris scored a 26-ball 59 to rescue her side from the dumps, even as controversy surrounded the use of DRS to challenge wides and no-balls. Kiran Prabha Navgire also played a great hand, scoring 53, as most of the Warriors’ batting was unable to face Kim Garth, who picked up a fantastic five-wicket haul. Garth was named as the replacement for Deandra Dottin, who was ruled out of the series for lack of fitness. Earlier, Harleen Deol’s 46 followed by a couple of entertaining cameos from Ashleigh Gardner and Dayalan Hemalatha took the Giants to an imposing total of 169, which was chased down by the Warriors with just the one ball remaining.
